From flying into the backcoutnry to choosing each day’s activity, Alaska’s dynamic weather dictates so much about each and every adventure we plan. Living by the adage of “Hope for the best, plan for worst, and probably get something right in between” has served us quite well and often seems to sum up the Alaska weather experience. The bottom line is that YOU WILL EXPERIENCE WEATHER on your trip. And beneath each forecast are the average high and low temperatures (in degrees Fahrenheit) listed with average precipitation for each location. However, weather varies greatly from place to place, and many of our trips take place miles from their starting points. In terms of forecasting for the week ahead, we are big fans of the National Weather Service Alaska Region Forecast Map. Here you can find the latest forecasts for specific forecast zones as well as various warnings issued across Alaska. Not only is spending some time on the NWS website going to teach you about the complex geography of Alaska, it’s also going to help you understand how dynamic the weather is across the breadth of the biggest state in the nation.
